STONE HARBOR – The Philadelphia Flyers charitable organization made a donation totaling $13,500 to the Citizens/Veterans Advisory Committee, a volunteer-based Cape May County veterans advocacy group that provides emergency funding to veterans who are struggling with basic needs. The donation was made in behalf of Flyers Charities by Jim McCrossin, Director of Sports Medicine for the Flyers, and his wife Robin at American Legion Post #331 (Stone Harbor/Avalon) on Thursday, Aug. 10. The check was received by James Fleischmann, Commander of American Legion Post #331.
“We are overwhelmed and humbled by the generosity of Flyers Charities to help support veterans in our southern shore region of New Jersey,” said Johnnie Walker, Chairman of the Committee. “This funding will help provide basic, essential needs for veterans including housing assistance, payment of utility bills and other needs that are fundamental to a sustainable quality of life.”
The Citizens/Veterans Advisory Committee consists of volunteer professionals from throughout South Jersey who are dedicated to improving the quality of life for our veterans. The organization has no overhead administrative costs which allows for donations to go directly to the veterans. There are no paid personnel affiliated with the Committee which consistently promotes the awareness of the needs of veterans and their families since 2013.
Since its inception, Flyers Charities has contributed over $26 million to charity. The funds raised from the Flyers Wives Carnival and other initiatives and events help support hundreds of nonprofit organizations throughout the Greater Philadelphia Region, including the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation. Flyers Charities proudly supports a multitude of worthy nonprofit organizations that provide educational and recreational resources to underserved youth, engage important medical and health care research, and countless community development initiatives.
