Kyle Barrow is Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) Volunteer of the Month for October

Kyle Barrow

By Press Release

Kyle Barrow of Essex, Md. is the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) Volunteer of the Month for October 2016. Barrow is shown here, seated in the 1915 Ford Model T on display at the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, Cape May’s only Victorian house museum. With him are, from left, MAC Maintenance Director Paul Smargiassi, and members of MAC’s maintenance staff, Dave Adams and John Adams. Barrow happened upon the Emlen Physick Estate on June 1 and ended up volunteering to get the estate’s 1915 Model T up and running. Until then, it was on display, but not driven. “He just showed up and said, ‘I can have this running for you in an hour’,” Dave Adams said. Smargiassi nominated Kyle for the honor to recognize this gift of his extraordinary skill. Kyle not only got the vehicle running, but showed them how to service it and how to drive it; the accelerator is located on the steering column and the clutch takes some getting used to. “Without Kyle’s help, we would not have thought this Model T could be driven,” said Smargiassi. “This 1915 Model T is the same type of vehicle that Dr. Emlen Physick drove. Now, thanks to Kyle, we can drive it and show people how it works in action.”
The Volunteer of the Month award is given to a person or persons demonstrating a high degree of dedication, commitment and constancy to the MAC organization.
