By Press Release

The Kiwanis Club held the installation of the 2016-2017 President, Kim Allen of North Cape May, on October 5 at the Lobster House Restaurant, with over 90 people attending. Kim has been active with the club since 2003.
Kim was born in Endicott, N.Y. and received a BS in Business Management from the State University of Binghamton, N.Y. Kim served in the U.S. Army as a Reservist. During her 32-year career with IBM in Endicott, N.Y. she served as a Procurement Specialist. She relocated to West Cape May in 2000 and retired from IBM in 2006. In 2002, Kim organized and co-chaired the West Cape May Farmers’ Market. From 2006 to 2013, she was the Cape May County Purchasing Agent. She is a member of the Our Lady Star of the Sea Church of Cape May. Kim lives in North Cape May and has two children, Joe and Sarah. Her fiancée, Jim Ford, is also a Kiwanis member since 2014. Jim is active in the Kiwanis Club and Knights of Columbus. Both Kim and Jim demonstrate the active volunteer support that our local community needs in many organizations. “Our club has many talented members who make the club one of the largest and most active in New Jersey,” Ms. Allen said at her installation ceremony.
Kim will be joined in leadership of the club with Ernie Oravsky, Vice President and President Elect for 2016-2017; Mary Jo Oravsky, Secretary; and Charles Kealy, Treasurer. Board members for the year are: Bob Morris, Larry Notch, Michele Bennett, Rob Riehl, Eileen Kreszswick and Harley Shuler.
Cape May Kiwanis is a licensed charitable organization. The Kiwanis organization’s focus is simple, yet significant; that is to create opportunities for children to strengthen character, improve grades and develop as future leaders through service. Kiwanis provides local scholarships for six to 10 eligible graduating seniors each year. Over the last five years, Kiwanis has given $75,000 in scholarships. Local fundraising is successful through the car raffle, pancake breakfast, spaghetti and roast beef dinners. The club members provide community support for the Christmas parade, Easter egg hunt, flag lowering, 9/11 ceremony, Cape May City events and many more community activities. The Cape May Kiwanis Club is celebrating 93 years of service this year. The club is one of the largest and most active service clubs in Cape May. It is the only club in the country that owns its clubhouse, the old Cold Spring Lifesaving Station #136.
