Jersey Shore Store Fishes for Tourists in Big Apple

By Herald Staff

NEW YORK — The New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism wants Greenwich Village pedestrians to be daydreaming of boardwalks and sandy beaches as they walk down Broadway this summer.
To accomplish that task, the division May 28 held a grand opening of “The Jersey Shore Store,” an interactive travel boutique designed to attract out-of-state vacationers to the resort towns up and down the coast including those in Cape May County.
“We’re kicking off the summer season by bringing some of the excitement of the Jersey Shore to consumers who are looking for great ideas for vacation plans this year,” New Jersey Secretary of State Nina Mitchell Wells said in a release.
“Tourism in New Jersey is a $38.8 billion industry, in large part because of the wide array of vacation options in the state. New Jersey offers 127 miles of pristine beaches and so much more — from world-class gaming and spa resorts, to dining on par with the best in the nation, to classic, comfortable family seaside getaways that build lifelong memories.”
The store, located at 813 Broadway between 11th and 12th streets, will give customers a chance to talk with travel experts to plan the ideal Garden State escape to fit their vacation style, as well as sample some of the shore’s iconic pleasures, enjoy free samples of salt water taffy and cotton candy, and sign up for vacation and prize giveaways.
The Jersey Shore Store will be open Tuesdays through Sundays. Travel representatives from a diverse range of Jersey Shore towns will be on hand to take visitors on a virtual tour of their beaches, bargains and attractions.
The store will also feature a full calendar of daily events for visitors of all ages, including daily drawings for free vacations and other prizes. Scheduled attractions include a master sand sculptor, a touch tank aquarium, professional poker and blackjack lessons, golf clinics, a popular shore DJ and a wide variety of presentations and performances by tourism representatives from destinations throughout New Jersey.
“In today’s challenging economy, The Jersey Shore Store is an innovative way to remind New Yorkers and other tri-state residents that a wonderful vacation experience for any budget is right next door,” said Wells.
“New Jersey also offers a variety of great travel options for those who prefer the ease and convenience of taking public transportation. Our knowledgeable travel professionals will help you plan all the details for a memorable vacation.”
The Jersey Shore Store will be open Tuesdays through Sundays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The store can be reached by phone at (212) 777-2286.
