Jersey Shore Partnership to Honor Lund’s Fisheries

By Press Release

CAPE MAY — Lund’s Fisheries Inc. will be honored by the Jersey Shore Partnership for its contribution to the seafood industry and the New Jersey economy by being presented with the Seafood Industry Award at the annual Summer Celebration, according to a May 17 press release from Jersey Shore Partnership.
Established in 1954, Lund’s is a primary producer of various species of fish found along the eastern seaboard of the United States. The family-owned company’s commitment to quality enables it to service customers worldwide with the finest fresh and frozen seafood available here in the states.
Lund’s Fisheries employs 75 people full-time and another 150 on a seasonal basis.
Lund’s is one of the largest seafood processing facilities on the eastern seaboard. With over 1,200 feet of waterfront they have a minimum of 15 vessels discharging fish on a daily basis. It processes 450 metric tons of whole fish per day.
“The seafood industry is integral to the Jersey Shore experience of swimming, sport fishing, and eating good locally- caught fish,” said Jeff Reichle, who is owner of Lund’s with his son, Wayne. “It all ties together into one shore experience and we are proud to be a part of that and hope to be here for many years to come,” he added.
Lund’s is one of the organizations or people being honored at the Jersey Shore Partnership’s kickoff for the summer, the 14th annual Summer Celebration to be held at Fort Hancock on SandHook June 7, starting at 5:30 p.m.
The event has come to symbolize the beginning of the festive summer season for residents and visitors to the shore. More than 400 participants are expected to attend.
Dinner chairs this year are Diane and Michael Gooch, publishers of The Two River Times, and serving as honorary chairs are state Sen. Joseph M. Kyrillos and Susan Doctorian Kyrillos. Sen. Kyrillos has been an advocate for the Jersey Shore Partnership since its organization in 1992.
“The evening on The Hook gives us an opportunity to honor those people who share the Partnership’s commitment to preserving and protecting our beaches that are vital to the state’s tourism economy and to the quality of life of the millions of people that choose the shore as their residence, business or recreation,” stated Dinner Chair Diane Gooch.
Meridian Health and its president, John Lloyd, will receive this year’s Tom Gagliano Leadership Award. Hatch Mott MacDonald and it senior vice president and Partnership board member, Robert Mainberger, will be presented with the Outstanding Partnership Award.
Gov. Chris Christie and Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno will be recognized with the Elected Leadership award, which will be accepted by Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin.
Brookdale Community College will receive the Partnership’s first Educational Partnership Award.
Renowned chefs from along the Jersey shore will prepare their signature dishes with seafood donated by fisheries from north Jersey to Cape May. The evening’s culinary presentations will be under the director of Chef Murray G. Dychtwald of Restaurant Rescue, Toms River.
Music will be provided by Pat Guadagno, well-known shore vocalist, guitarist and recording artist.
Advance tickets for the event are $100 and can be obtained by calling Executive Director Margot Walsh at 732-212-4145 or email mwalsh jspf@gmail.com for more information or go to the partnership website at www.jerseyshorepartnership.com to sign up for this special summer evening event..
