Habitat Home Dedication to Take Place Feb. 10

Habitat Home Dedication to Take Place Feb. 10

By Sponsored

WHITESBORO – Please join Habitat for Humanity Cape May County at a dedication of the newest Habitat home on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 12 to 1 p.m. The event will take place at 209 Reeves St., Whitesboro, Middle Township. New homeowners Angel Santiago and Abigail Garcia and their children, Tanya (13), Jaydiel (10) and Mileydi (9), have contributed over 300 hours of sweat equity into the building of their home. They have worked side-by-side with over 125 local Habitat volunteers on everything from framing, sheet rocking and hanging doors in their house, to painting the rooms and clearing exterior debris surrounding the house.
Twenty-one local churches, schools and civic organizations from Cape May to Ocean City participated in the “Blessing Project” for 209 Reeves St., where framing studs were sponsored in support of Habitat for Humanity. Individual and group sponsors decorated the actual 2 x 4’s and 2 x 6’s with inspirational messages, bible verses and artwork. They were then built into the frame of the house where all those who enter would not see the blessed studs but feel the warmth of a home that was built by the kindness and generosity of volunteers and donors.
The house at 209 Reeves St. was built on a lot donated to Habitat for Humanity by Middle Township, and represents the ninth building project completed in partnership with Middle Township since 2011. Many local businesses contributed, donated or discounted building materials and services to the project—including architectural plans (Christina Amey Architects), roofing (Dave Adams Roofing), appliances (Whirlpool) and plumbing labor (Schafer Mechanical Services).
Habitat for Humanity is not a giveaway program—the Garcia Santiago family applied for the home along with over 70 other local families, and were selected based on their need, willingness to partner with Habitat and their ability to pay the monthly mortgage (including property taxes and insurance). Habitat homes are sold to partner families at less than market value, which is made possible by the generosity of volunteers and donors, and a zero-interest mortgage provided by Habitat Cape May.
“We are proud to have completed another beautiful home in Middle Township, and thankful for our incredible volunteers who contributed nearly 4,000 hours to help make dreams come true for the Garcia Santiago Family,” said Shawn Lockyear, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Cape May County. To find out how you can volunteer for a future Habitat project, please call Cheryl Spaulding, Volunteer Coordinator, at (609) 425-3937.
