The Wildwoods, NJ – The Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority (GWTIDA) received the 2011 New Jersey Governor’s Award for Tourism Excellence for its 2010 Public Relations campaign for the unveiling of the Wildwoods’ Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. John Siciliano, Executive Director of GWTIDA, accepted the award along with Vince DePrinzio of Wildwoods’ Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 955, on Thursday, March 24, at Trump Marina during the New Jersey Governor’s Conference on Tourism Awards Ceremony in Atlantic City.
GWTIDA’s 2010 public relations campaign for the Wildwoods’ Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall generated extensive media coverage that resulted in over $187,000 dollars in advertising equivalency – with stories placed in key target markets.
GWTIDA’s Public Relations agency of record, Suasion Communications Group, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, created and executed the award-winning campaign.
“We are honored to be chosen for this award,” said John Siciliano. “The results of the PR campaign for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall are impressive, and we were pleased to be a part of this incredible monument unveiling to honor the brave men and women who so proudly served their country. Our hope is that the PR campaign created awareness of the Wildwoods Vietnam Memorial Wall and will encourage people to visit the wall in the future to pay their respects.”
The award-winning campaign consisted of a comprehensive and multi-faceted strategic public relations effort including drafting and distributing news releases about the wall and Unveiling Ceremony surrounding it, targeted pitches, public service announcements, researching and reaching out to supporting organizations – requesting that information about the unveiling of the Wall be disseminated through their channels and contacts via organization publications, newsletters and other outlets, and sending e-blasts to over 90,000 potential visitors to attend the dedication ceremony and festival.
The New Jersey Governor’s Conference on Tourism is a joint venture of the New Jersey Department of State, Division of Travel & Tourism and the New Jersey Travel Industry Association. The Governor’s Tourism Awards Ceremony serves to honor the individuals and organizations that have contributed to the experience of visitors and the quality of life of New Jersey residents.
