WILDWOOD — The Harlem Globetrotters’ return to the Wildwoods Convention Center attracted huge crowds on Feb. 20, breaking the venue’s box office records previously set by the Globetrotters. As a result, the Wildwoods Convention Center will receive a special Red, White and Blue “Money Ball” to commemorate the record-breaking winter show.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to receive a Harlem Globetrotters ‘Money Ball.’ The Globetrotters put on an amazing show at the Wildwoods Convention Center and are a one-of-a-kind, class act. What’s more amazing is that the attendance record came off the heels of a major snowstorm in the middle of winter.
“We look forward to hosting the show at the convention center again in the future,” said John Siciliano, executive director for the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority (GWTIDA).”
The Globetrotters continue to award venues with a Red, White and Blue “Money Ball” for first-time records. To date, the Wildwoods are among 51 other destinations to be awarded a Money Ball for the team’s 2010 Harlem Globetrotters’ Magical Memories Tour.
Other destinations include San Diego, CA; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; and Chicago, IL.
Sponsored by the Campbell Soup Company, Spalding, Howard Johnson Hotels and America’s Best Contacts and Eyeglasses, the Original Harlem Globetrotters are in their 84th consecutive season of touring the world. As part of the team’s 2010 World Tour, the Globetrotters are performing 269 shows in 216 cities in 44 states, the District of Columbia, five Canadian provinces and Puerto Rico through the first week of May 2010.
The Original Harlem Globetrotters have performed in 120 countries on six continents, entertaining over 130 million fans and crossing barriers between cultures, societies and people from all walks of life.
The Globetrotters are one of only six teams to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
