PHILADELPHIA – Regardless what unemployment statistics the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics broadcasts, regional data, contained in the March 18 release by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia reveals a true picture of the state of New Jersey’s employment numbers.
As contained in the latest regional “nowcast,” produced by the bank’s research department, “During the month of February, the national unemployment rate increased from 6.6 percent to 6.7 percent. Using an analytical method created by bank researchers, we expect unemployment rates for February to decrease from 6.4 percent to 6.2 percent in Pennsylvania and remain unchanged in New Jersey and Delaware, to 7.1 percent and 6. 1 percent, respectively.”
The number of unemployed in the Garden State was 316,802 in January when the rate was 7.1 percent .
