Freeholders Recognize Mobile Meals Volunteers

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE — County Freeholders honored Mobile Meals Volunteers for being selected 2011 Outstanding Organization of the Year at the Senior Jamboree held on May 5, at the Avalon Community Center. The annual event, hosted by the Department of Aging, celebrates Cape May County’s senior citizens.
The Mobile Meals Volunteers are 23 men and women who have contributed over 2,500 hours of volunteer service from May 2010 through April 2011.
Freeholder Thornton said, “This wonderful group goes beyond delivering meals to homebound seniors of our County. They discuss current events, talk about family members, weather conditions, bring in the mail, change light bulbs and even take out the trash.”
These volunteers travel their routes each day to serve frail homebound clients on hot, humid days, windy, rainy days and they do it with a smile making each client feel special.
Thornton added, “Many seniors tell us the best part about meal delivery is the friendly, caring volunteers. They have put smiles on the faces of so many residents through the years. Mobile Meals Volunteers are the vital link in our service and add an immeasurable human value to the quality of what the Department of Aging does.”
The Department of Aging awards the Outstanding Organization of the Year award annually to either a group made up of seniors helping any age group, or a younger group of people volunteering their time to help seniors in the community.
