A new Veteran awareness and benefit called Flags of Liberty was approved at the City of North Wildwood City Council Meeting April 16. Flags of Liberty is planned to be an historic unfurling of 50 Veteran Casket Flags by families and organizations the weekend before Independence Day helping to bring awareness and support to Veterans in need. The event was proposed by Sunrise On Sunday, Founder and Officiant, Deb Moore and its supporters, to be held at the North Wildwood Seawall June 30 and be in addition to their weekly Veteran Flag Ceremony.
Chris McKeown, media volunteer for the event said, “Independence Day weekend is the perfect time to thank God for our Nation, honor our Veterans and have Veteran families give their loved ones a voice from beyond in bringing awareness to the needs of their comrades among today.”
In addition to Flags of Liberty, throughout the summer May 26 to September 1, the Sunrise On Sunday – Veteran Flag Ceremonies are held every Sunday at the Lou Booth Amphitheater. At the initial flag raising service May 26 at 5:30 a.m., Mayor Patrick Rosenello will raise the Veteran Casket Flag of Louis J. Bishop to honor his service in the US Army. Louis Bishop is the deceased husband of Councilwomen, Margaret “Peggy” Bishop.
