Fishermen’s Energy Applauds Lawmaker’s Initiative

By Press Release

CAPE MAY — Fishermen’s Energy applauds the New Jersey Senate and Assembly for their foresight in passing the Offshore Wind Economic Development Act.
“This legislation is the first step in creating a new renewable energy industry in New Jersey, with the potential for attracting manufacturing, its associated employment and reducing our dependency on fossil fuels,” said Michael Madia, Chief Operating Officer of Fishermen’s Energy.
“Without this bi-partisan legislation, New Jersey would have lost the race to attract this new industry, without having entered the race,” said Daniel Cohen, President of Fishermen’s Energy.
Fishermen’s Energy views their demonstration scale offshore wind project, to be located approximately 2.8 miles off the coast of Atlantic City, as a catalyst, along with this legislation, to jump-starting the offshore wind industry in New Jersey.
“This legislation sends a strong signal that New Jersey is “open for the business of offshore wind”, thus providing the impetus for international equipment manufacturers and financial firms to consider New Jersey for assembly and manufacturing investments, as well as for debt and equity capital to offshore wind projects,” said Madia.
Fishermen’s Energy is a company founded by a core group of East Coast commercial fishermen to respond to the public’s need to develop the ocean for renewable wind energy.
