NORTH CAPE MAY — Beginning Saturday, Nov. 1 and continuing through March 31, 2009, the Cape May – Lewes
Ferry will offer a $10 same day, return-trip value fare for a standard size vehicle and its driver.
According to a release, that special vehicle value fare for a same day return trip, which is valid during this trial period, “offers a bargain for South Jersey and Delaware residents as well as visitors to the Twin Capes resort region who want to use the Ferry for a round-trip, same day excursion to visit the exciting destinations and attractions in the Delaware Bay area.”
The new fare is designed to promote business and commerce activity in the local communities of Delaware and New Jersey, stated Heath Gehrke, director of Ferry Operations,.
“For local residents – and visitors – who travel round-trip, same-day on the Cape May – Lewes Ferry during the winter months, we have created a special value fare to make it even more affordable,” Gehrke said. “Whether it’s visiting relatives, going holiday shopping or seeing the great attractions and festivals of the Twin Capes resort region, getting there on the Cape May – Lewes Ferry just became a great bargain.”
Ferry customers who purchase an initial crossing fare of $28 for a standard vehicle and driver would receive this
“Same Day Sailor Saver” fare of $10 on the same-day, return-trip versus the normal return-trip fare of $24, a savings of
almost 60 percent, according to the release.
Visitors and residents looking for special day trips to South Jersey might consider world-class birding in the Cape
May area, or an exciting visit to the Cape May County Park and Zoo.
In addition, the Atlantic City casinos are always a key destination for area residents while the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts is conducting a two-month celebration this holiday season.
In Delaware, ferry customers can enjoy tax free savings at over 130 Tanger Outlet stores. The quaint resort towns
of Rehoboth Beach and Lewes offer both shopping, dining and history. Southern Delaware and nearby Ocean City, Maryland, are always busy with fall and holiday events that can be enjoyed during a day trip on the ferry. In March 2008, the Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) Commissioners approved the creation of this new
same day return trip fare for a standard-sized vehicle and its driver. At the conclusion of the trial period, the Authority’s
management will evaluate the impact of the new fare class on vehicle traffic and make recommendations to the Commissioners whether to continue the program.
