The Community FoodBank of New Jersey—Southern Branch raised more than $35,000 in its recent “Feed a Family” dine out campaign, supported by over 50 area restaurants, Vice President of the Southern Branch Richard Uniacke announced.
“We are so grateful to our restaurant partners and the diners who added $5 or more to their bills during Feed A Family. The contributions by these hunger heroes will allow us to feed over 105,000 meals to families in Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties,” Uniacke said.
Restaurants who participated agreed to promote the event to their patrons and collect the funds for the FoodBank for one week in early August. The BigFish restaurant group in Wildwood agreed to join the campaign, and with Beach Creek, Urie’s and Boathouse participating, it became a winning team! The dedicated staff of the Boathouse raised $2,260, setting new records for the Feed A Family campaign. Beach Creek raised $681, and Urie’s raised $744. The staff at the Community FoodBank of NJ was completely overwhelmed when the BigFish restaurant group family donated another $6,000, bringing their donation to a whopping $9,685! The support of these amazing hometown heroes helped provide over 29,055 meals to our neighbors in need.
“Now, in October, we are marking the beginning of our Holiday Meals campaign and are working to continue raising awareness about the tremendous need to combat hunger in our area. In our most recent fiscal year ending June 30, the FoodBank distributed more than 10 million pounds of food, a record for the organization and an 18 percent increase over the previous year,” Uniacke said.
