SOMERS POINT – The Every Breath Counts Foundation presented a donation of $10,000 to the South Jersey Cancer Fund on Monday, April 3. Mary Crane, President of the South Jersey Cancer Fund, accepted the donation from Barbara Jean Douglas, President of the Every Breath Counts Foundation.
“We’re committed to supporting lung-cancer-focused organizations such as the South Jersey Cancer Fund,” said Douglas. “The funds we raise help patients and families affected by lung cancer right here in our area, which has the highest incidence of lung cancer in the state of New Jersey.”
The funds were raised by Every Breath Counts’ annual Walk, Run, Survive 5K for Lung Cancer Awareness, which draws attention to lung cancer as the number one cancer killer in America. This year’s event will be held Saturday, November 11 in Ventnor.
The South Jersey Cancer Fund is an all-volunteer organization which provides direct assistance to cancer patients for prescriptions, medical supplies, food supplements, prostheses, transportation costs, respite care, special equipment, COBRA payments, utilities and other costs which can be financially devastating to cancer patients with insufficient insurance coverage. More than 95 percent of funds raised go directly to patient needs.
