COURT HOUSE — Local residents looking for sound financial advice will now have more choices with Edward Jones opening a second office in the heart of downtown Court House.
Financial Advisor Tammy Allison, formerly of A.G. Edwards and Wachovia Securities, said she proudly joined the Edward Jones team last year. She’s been working with another Edward Jones advisor Donna Ferren at her office at 1011 Route 9 South.
Allison, however, was ready to branch out on her own and was happy that Edward Jones provided her with that opportunity.
“My Edward Jones office opened in 1995 to offer investment services to Cape May County,” Ferren said. “I welcome Tammy Allison to Edward Jones and wish her much success. We are both happy to announce that Edward Jones now has two convenient locations in Cape May Court House to serve the growing needs of the investor community.”
Allison and her husband John, marketing director at the Golden Inn in Avalon, recently purchased the historic Joseph Hand House located at 2 South Main St. at the corner of Mechanic Street.
For the past 50 years, Edward Jones has been known as the company that’s “brought Wall Street to Main Street in communities across the country” and now in this community that phrase has never been truer.
“It has been my dream to open an office of my own in a historic home in this community,” Allison said in March when her project went for approvals before the township Planning Board. “If you approve this project, you will help me realize that dream and allow me to continue helping the people of this community realize their dreams too.”
The Allisons bought the home from Middle Township Deputy Mayor F. Nathan Doughty and his wife Patricia, who moved to a new home on Dias Creek Road.
For the Allisons, the renovation of that historic building from a private home to a professional office has been a family project and a labor of love. They have been working on the interior of the Joseph Hand House for months. They painted and did other renovations including a teardown of a shed in the home’s backyard.
“My father had the idea of using the timbers from the old shed to make a conference table for my meeting room,” Allison said. The large rustic table fits nicely with the décor of the historic home, she said. It was her intention to retain the historic feel of the house even with the specialized equipment of a modern office.
As a financial advisor in this community for 17 years, Allison specializes in guiding clients in strategies to meet life goals — from college savings to retirement. She works very close with many retirees in this community, which fits with the Edward Jones philosophy of service to the clients’ individual investment needs on a one-on-one basis.
In addition to using her office space as a place to meet with clients and hold financial seminars, Allison said she would also use it as a meeting place for various community groups including the many nonprofit organizations to which she belongs such as the Rotary Club, Women’s Only Networking, Middle Township Chamber of Commerce and Volunteers in Medicine.
Once the office is open for business, Allison said she would be hosting several open-house events to welcome those in her community.
“I look forward to my office being open on May 3 and sharing this lovely home with clients, friends and members of the community,” Allison said.
