New Cape May Airport Building Set for Occupancy in December 2016
ERMA – On Wednesday, June 8, Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) representatives joined with local and county officials and business leaders to break ground on a new building at the Cape May Airport designed to house light industrial and commercial businesses. This building will be the first new building built at the Airport for the express purpose of commercial use since the Airport operation was assumed by the DRBA in 1999. The new 15,000 SF building is expected to be completed by the end of 2016 at cost of $1.9 million.
“We’re excited to celebrate the start of construction on this important new building,” said James N. Hogan, Vice Chairman of the DRBA. “The Authority has a great working relationship with County officials and Lower Township leaders and everyone is focused on creating an environment conducive for businesses of all types to be successful. As evidenced by this project, our teamwork approach is producing results at Cape May Airport.”
The new building will be constructed on Ranger Road, west of the intersection with Hornet Road at the Cape May Airport. Current plans for the building call for three finished units, two at 1,500 SF each and one larger 3,000 SF unit. The remaining building will be remain ‘core and shell’ and available for fit-out in 1,500 SF increments.
“The project is the first significant effort toward economic growth at the Cape May County airport in decades,” said Freeholder Director Gerald M. Thornton. “I commend the DRBA for their commitment and investment in Cape May County. I especially want to point to the efforts of Will Morey who has made economic development a driving force in his role as Cape May County Freeholder. Through his vision we will see an expanded partnership with the DRBA and more importantly more jobs for the residents of Cape May County.”

“The DRBA has continued to provide leadership in our region on a variety of projects that have helped to stimulate the area’s economy for our residents,” said Mayor Michael Beck of Lower Township. “From bike trails and the heritage byway to local concerts and a triathlon, the DRBA is a can-do organization and a great partner. I want to thank all who are making this happen.”
“We have a number of commercial business prospects who have expressed interest in leasing space when construction is completed,” added Victor Ferzetti, Chief Financial Officer for the DRBA. “We’re focused on filling these units as quickly as possible so we can begin construction on a second building.”
Since assuming operational control of Cape May Airport on June 8, 1999, the Delaware River and Bay Authority has made significant capital investments at general aviation facility. Ground will be broken and construction will commence immediately on one 15,000 SF building. If business conditions warrant, the site plan envisions a second building nearby. The building site is located on the western end of Ranger Road in the airport’s industrial park near the DRBA equipment and operations facility.
