NORTH CAPE MAY – Today, Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) officials announced that the bi-state agency is seeking information from qualified firms in the renewable industry on providing opportunities and strategies to implement cost effective renewable energy projects at DRBA facilities in New Jersey and Delaware. The Authority encourages the participation of small,
minority and women-owned businesses. Submissions from interested parties are due September 8, 2011.
According to James T. Johnson, Jr., Executive Director for the DRBA, the goal of this Request for Information (RFI) is to identify feasible projects concepts for wind and/or solar installations at Authority facilities. The Authority will consider other technologies such as geothermal if they are feasible and prove beneficial. “We are committed to protecting the environment and adopting practices that promote environmental stewardship,” Johnson said. “Through a variety of short and long term initiatives, the DRBA seeks to accomplish a number of goals, including the generation of electricity from renewable sources, increasing efficiency of energy usage, and reducing energy-related operating costs.”
Over the past two years, the DRBA has completed two studies involving the feasibility of developing renewable sources of energy at the Delaware Memorial Bridge and Cape May – Lewes Ferry facilities. While the Authority is primarily interested in on-site renewable projects that will be privately owned and operated, with the Authority purchasing the electricity through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), the agency would consider other project arrangements depending on the renewable technology. Wind and solar systems could be small scale to demonstrate the feasibility of localized generation or on a larger scale, which would provide power generation to the grid.
“The Authority’s intent with this RFI is to implement renewable energy projects that can be on-line as soon as possible,” Johnson added. “Hopefully, the process will assist in the formulation of a Request for Proposal (RFP) and ultimately a beneficial partnership agreement.”
Interested parties may obtain the relevant documents beginning Tuesday, July 26, 2011.
For further information and instructions, entities are encouraged to go to www.drba.net and select the tab labeled “Working with the Authority,” “Current Solicitations” and finally the link labeled “For solicitations after February 1, 2011”. Following a pre-submission meeting scheduled for August 9, 2011 at 1:30 pm in Authority’s administrative offices in New Castle, Delaware,
interested parties must forward their submission to Kelly Phillips Parker, Centralized Purchasing Administrator, Delaware River and Bay Authority, I-295 & Route 9, New Castle, Delaware 19720 no later September 8, 2011.
