By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – Don Trappler has been named Cape Regional Health System’s “Special Touch Volunteer” for the third quarter of 2015.
Don lives in Rio Grande with his wife, Trudy. The couple, who have been married for 53 years, has been blessed with three children and four grandchildren.
Don began his hospital volunteer service in June, 2012 and to date, he has diligently contributed more than 850 hours of service as a Fitness Center Volunteer and Facilitator for the Health System’s Prostate Cancer Support Group. “Volunteering affords so many rewards. I enjoy helping people as they face difficult times and providing encouragement to support them,” stated Mr. Trappler. “Our motto at the Prostate Cancer Support Group is, ‘Cancer is a word, not a sentence.’ This motto provides perspective and keeps the members’ focus on healing and life. I am so thankful for this recognition and love volunteering at Cape Regional Health System.”
His award nominator notes that he is extremely positive and worked hard to organize the support group for which he now serves as Facilitator. Don recently independently attended a national conference on Prostate Support Groups in Chicago, Illinois, to obtain vital information to share with the group.
During the award presentation, Thomas Piratzky, Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing, and Julie Paolella, Director of Volunteer Services, joined with Don’s fellow volunteers and Fitness Center staff members in honoring him with the Volunteer of the Quarter Award. Don was presented with a boutonniere, a Special Touch Volunteer pin, gift card and commemorative plaque.
