COURT HOUSE – The Cape May County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors considered two legislative bills and adopted positions that are considered pro-business.
Assembly bill A3856 sponsored by 1st Legislative District Assemblyman Robert Andrzeczjak provides maximum sales and use tax imposition amount for sales and uses of boats and vessels and establishes grace period for imposition of use tax on certain boats and vessels used by resident purchasers. The CMC Chamber supports this bill and considers boating, fishing, and watersports very important to the tourism industry and quality of life for local residents. “The current taxes required by New Jersey when purchasing a boat in our state are excessive when compared to other states. This situation is not only driving the sale of boats out of New Jersey, but is also seriously hindering the average boater’s ability to enjoy this form of recreation”, reported Vicki Clark, President of the Chamber.
The Chamber Board of Directors also voted to support Assembly bill 4128, legislation designed to advance the development of wind farms. “It is the position of the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce that offshore wind projects could be a significant renewable energy resource, which is vitally important to our environment and would also bring new jobs to the area in a diversified field of opportunity”, reported Clark.
