CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County Chamber of Commerce issued a report today stating that local small businesses enjoyed a robust start to the holiday shopping season.
From one end of Cape May County to the other, businesses experienced higher than normal traffic, even for this time of year. According to Larry Hume at Sunset Beach Gift Shop in Lower Township, “We were busy, very busy. No complaints here. Another great Thanksgiving weekend.”
Nicole Foxman, Marketing Director at Stainton’s Gallery in Ocean City, reported, “Black Friday and Small Business Saturday were wonderful. People are very interested in supporting local and small businesses. Sales reflected a great turnout. People showed strong support for their community.”
The Cape May County Chamber of Commerce has been the local leader in promoting Shop Local focusing not just on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, which began in 2010, but shopping local during the entire holiday season. “Local business owners and their employees are our neighbors and friends. When we shop local, we’re investing in the people and the community we live in,” stated Vicki Clark, President of the County Chamber.
With locations in Stone Harbor, Avalon and Ocean City, David Hoy of Hoy’s Five and Ten said, “We did very well. The weather was perfect and definitely helped make the weekend a success.”
The Chamber also reminds us that many Cape May County businesses also have online stores and cater to shoppers who enjoy shopping online. “Before you head up the Parkway, check out the hundreds of local businesses who support our communities throughout the year and employ local residents. And if you like to shop at 3 o’clock in the morning in your pajamas, look for local stores online as well.” For more information, visit www.CapeMayCountyChamber.com or call (609) 465-7181.
