TRENTON — The Cape May County Division of Culture and Heritage and arts agencies from seven other southern New Jersey counties will split over $100,000 in left-over grant funding from the State Council on the Arts.
The Council announced the grant awards at its December meeting.
“In the current economic climate we want to put all the resources at our disposal to work in New Jersey to provide excellent arts experiences for our residents and visitors,” Judith Leone, chair of the Council’s Grants Committee, said in a Dec. 16 release.
“We know that every dollar we invest provides benefits to local economies, education, healthcare, tourism, youth-at-risk and so much more.”
Cape May’s allotment was $10,032.
The remaining funds were split among the following county arts agencies: Atlantic, $13,723; Burlington, $14,971; Camden, $10,739; Cumberland, $20,294; Gloucester, $10,704; Ocean, $13,164; and Salem, $8,061.
“Through this relatively small investment of remaining grant funds, the Council is able to benefit seniors, youth, local emerging arts groups, promising young arts administrators, and help document the economic impact the arts have on our state,” Steve Runk, Arts Council executive director, said in the release.
“Every dollar awarded will provide a big return in public benefit.”
In its main round of grant funding in July, the Council awarded over $500,000 to Cape May County arts groups including:
• Culture and Heritage, $56,845
• Cape May State Film Festival, $42,758
• Cape May Stage, $105,034
• Center for Community Arts, $69,122
• East Lynne Theater Company, $9,165
• Friends of Cape May Jazz, $55,566
• Mid-Atlantic Center for Arts, $161,625
According Culture and Heritage Director Bernard W. Groff, the division will release shortly which programs will receive re-grants from its total funding of $66,877.
