CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – The Coast Guard Community Foundation, a nonprofit that honors and educates about the Coast Guard in Cape May County, is pleased to announce that Susan Hoffman has joined the organization as Festival Director. In this newly created role, she will be responsible for organizing the Coast Guard Community Festival held the first weekend of May each year.
“Susan will be a great addition to the team,” said Mike Couch, Executive Director, Coast Guard Community Foundation. “Her experience in public relations, marketing and special events planning will be invaluable as we work to grow and strengthen the festival.
Ms. Hoffman brings a wide range of experience and skills to the position. Most recently, she served as Vice President of Marketing and Public Affairs for Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pa. She was responsible for public relations, marketing, special events, internal and external communications, and media relations. A graduate of Penn State University, Ms. Hoffman and her husband, Wayne, are active members of the West Cape May community where she serves as secretary of the Shade Tree Commission and he as treasurer. In addition, they are responsible for maintaining the gardens and seasonal plantings in West Cape May’s Wilbraham Park.
The fourth annual Coast Guard Community Festival, running from Thursday, May 3 through Sunday, May 6, 2018, celebrates Cape May County’s designation as a Coast Guard Community. Coast Guard personnel and their families will be honored throughout the festival for the extraordinary role they play in our nation and our community. Festivities include tours aboard Coast Guard vessels, search and rescue demonstrations, drill team performances, live music, historical exhibits, local vendors and food. Events will be held on and around Training Center Cape May (TRACEN), the only active boot camp for Coast Guard enlisted recruits in the United States.
According to Ms. Hoffman, volunteers play a key role in the success of the Coast Guard Community Festival. “Over the past three years, more than 200 community members have volunteered their time to help put this festival together,” she said. “We are grateful for their dedication to the Coast Guard community and are hopeful they will join us again for the 2018 festival.”
This year, volunteers are needed to assist with all aspects of the festival including planning, marketing and overall festival implementation.
