CMC Chamber Opposes Proposed NJ Counties Hotel Tax

By Press Release

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County Chamber of Commerce recently alerted its member businesses of proposed legislation that would allow county governments to impose a 1% tax on hotel and motel rooms.
Senate bill 3169 was introduced by Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg of Bergen County and announced by Senate President Steve Sweeney. This bill, if passed by the NJ Legislature, would permit county governments to impose a 1% tax on all hotel, motel and bed and breakfast room rentals.
The Cape May County Chamber of Commerce is opposed to this bill and believes that if passed it would be harmful to our tourism driven economy and create an unreasonable hardship for this segment of the lodging industry.
