Christine Peck of Cape May Court House is the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) Volunteer of the Month for October 2018. Peck works as an optician; a self-taught photographer, she has a passion for taking images and manipulating them on the computer. “While I enjoy traditional photography, I simply love the challenge of making something new, exciting and different, out of an image,” she says. Peck can often be seen at arts and crafts shows where her work is on display, such as this one, at the Emlen Physick Estate. She also co-owns a shop, the Red Door Gallery, in Woodland Village, Clermont, in which her photography work and the artwork of fiber artist Mary Stewart are sold, along with the work of other local artists and crafts persons.
It was Stewart, who is also Chief Outreach Strategist for MAC, who nominated Peck for Volunteer of the Month for October, for Peck’s generous contributions to this year’s Carroll Gallery exhibit in the Carriage House on the grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., Cape May. “Capturing Cape May’s Architecture” tells the story of how a small band of preservationists and architects saved Cape May’s characteristic Victorian buildings. The exhibit, currently on display through the end of October, features reproductions of the actual mechanical drawings these young architects and preservationists created in the 1970s, as part of the effort to save Cape May’s historic architecture. “Christine spent time taking photos of these important buildings as they look today, and these photos were an integral part of the exhibit display,” said Stewart. “Christine provided her extraordinary photography skills as a free offering to MAC, and for that, we are extremely grateful.”
