Chinese New Year Celebration Observed in Ocean View

OCEAN VIEW – Jian-Wei,He and Ivy Lai, owners of Fai’s of Ocean View Authentic Chinese Cuisine and Cecelia Quigley, owner of The Children’s Country Place in Seaville hosted a Chinese New Year Celebration in the restaurant, as part of the school’s emergent curriculum. Approx. 30 preschoolers attended dressed in red as red is the color of good luck in Chinese Culture. February 3, 2011 is the first day of Chinese New Year and 2011 is the Year Of Rabbit. Chinese food was served and children used their training chopsticks, which was prepared by the staff. The traditional Dragon Dance was lead by Ivy’s daughter Emily who is 9 years old. The Dragon Dance represents prowess, nobility and fortune, drives out evil and brings good luck. Ivy gave all the children red packets filled with lucky money for good luck and wealth and also a gift tangling Chinese Dragon to take home.
