Charlie Havel

By Press Release

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – Charlie Havel has been named Cape Regional Health System’s “Special Touch Volunteer” for the fourth quarter of 2015.
Charlie lives in Wildwood with his wife, Grace. The couple, who have been married for 48 years, has been blessed with two children and two grandchildren – one of whom volunteers at the hospital with her grandparents!
Charlie, a retired U.S. Postal Carrier for more than 30 years, served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 through 1967 as an Electrician’s Mate 3rd Class on the USS Ticonderoga during the Vietnam War. Charlie began his hospital volunteer service in September 2010 and to date has diligently contributed more than 3,700 hours of service as a Golf Cart Volunteer, Gift Shop Volunteer and Pet Therapy Volunteer.
“Charlie, you and Grace are a gift to Cape Regional Health System,” stated Joanne Carrocino, FACHE, President and CEO. “We greatly appreciate your service and all that you do for our Health System.”
“Volunteering is my way of giving back to the community,” stated Mr. Havel. “I enjoy being part of the Cape Regional team and especially sharing the experience with my wife, Grace.” His award nominators note that he is extremely positive and has a “can do” attitude towards all of his assignments.
This busy volunteer is also a member of the Cape May County String Band. In his spare time, Charlie can be found doing embroidery and enjoying Public Broadcasting System programs along with his wife (and fellow volunteer) and their faithful friend/pup, Barney.
During the award presentation, Joanne Carrocino, President and CEO, Thomas Piratzky, Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing, and Julie Paolella, Director of Volunteer Services, joined with Charlie’s fellow volunteers in honoring him with the Volunteer of the Quarter Award. Charlie was presented with a boutonniere, a Special Touch Volunteer pin, gift card and commemorative plaque.
