Census Estimates Show Population Growth in NJ, Decline in Cape May County

NEW JERSEY – Census estimates indicate an overall population increase in New Jersey.
In the 12 months ending July 1, 2009, New Jersey added 44,401 residents, pushing the total just over 8.7 million.
According to new projections, the state’s population increased by 293,389 since the 2000 census.
The estimates indicate the Ocean County had the highest growth of almost 63,000 people, a 12.3 percent increase.
In contrast, Cape May County dropped more than 6,000 residents, roughly a 6 percent decline.
