A little after the death of Vera Catherine Smith, Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro, Inc. is renaming its Community Food Pantry in honor of this big-hearted nurturer and community leader, while also encouraging the community to bring canned goods to the dedication ceremony from noon to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017 at 100 E. Main St., Whitesboro (a.k.a. Historic Whitesboro Grammar School).
A driving force in establishing a food pantry in Whitesboro via Cape Human Resources, Vera Catherine Smith worked tirelessly to feed the people of the community of Whitesboro and Middle Township. Her greatest passion was helping others. Ms. Vera frequently delivered food and visited with homebound sick patients in Middle Township, in addition to serving as a mentor and leader in the community of Whitesboro.
In continuing Ms. Vera’s mission of helping others, the community is encouraged to donate canned goods for the sick, elderly and impoverished individuals in the communities of Middle Township. With this non-profit food distribution center helping more than 2,000 people than last year, the need for food is continuing to grow in South Jersey.
The Goal: To help meet the growing demand for food by bringing an impressive amount of food to feed families in South Jersey who are in need.

Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro saw the need to continue the food pantry as an extension of its programs and services, and invited Ms. Vera Smith to remain as the Food Pantry Manager. Since the passing of Ms. Vera, Florence Jones, with the dedicated assistance of her husband John, has taken over as manager of the food pantry.
