COURT HOUSE — Cape Regional Medical Center has received Chest Pain Center re-accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care(SCPC), an international organization that focuses on transforming cardiovascular care by assisting facilities in their effort to create communities of excellence that bring together quality, cost and patient satisfaction.
To become an Accredited Chest Pain Center, Cape Regional Medical Center engaged in rigorous evaluation and refinement of its cardiac care processes in order to integrate the healthcare industry’s best practices and newest paradigms into its cardiac care processes. Protocol-based medicine, developed by leading experts in cardiac care, to reduce the time from onset of symptoms to diagnosis and treatment is part of Cape Regional Medical Center’s overall cardiac care service. Their state-of-the-art heart care encompasses the entire continuum of care for the patient and includes such focal points as dispatch, Emergency Medical System, Emergency Department, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, quality assurance, and community outreach program.
As an Accredited Chest Pain Center, Cape Regional Medical Center ensures that patients who arrive at the hospital with chest pain or other symptoms of a heart attack receive the treatment necessary during the critical window of time when the integrity of the heart muscle can be preserved. By becoming an Accredited Chest Pain Center, Cape Regional Medical Center has enhanced the quality of care for the patient and has demonstrated its commitment to higher standards.
“Achieving Chest Pain Center accreditation is vital to the quality cardiac care we provide to our patients. The training and expertise of the cardiac team at Cape Regional Medical Center is exceptional as evidenced by this achievement,” states Joanne Carrocino, FACHE, President and CEO.
“People tend to wait when they think they might be having a heart attack and that’s a mistake,” states Domenic Coletta, M.D., Chairman of Emergency Medicine at Cape Regional Medical Center. “The average patient arrives in the emergency department more than two hours after the onset of symptoms, but what they don’t realize is that the sooner a heart attack is treated, the less damage to the heart and the better the outcome for the patient.”
Cape Regional Medical Center is a member of the Penn Cancer Network and an affiliate of Penn Medicine for Cancer and Cardiac Care. Cape Regional Medical Center is accredited by and received the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission.
