COURT HOUSE — Roy Hartle Sr. was named Cape Regional Medical Center’s “Special Touch Volunteer of the Month” for March, 2009.
According to a release, since joining the volunteer team at Cape Regional in 2005, Hartle has contributed more than 600 hours of vital volunteer service.
Hartle’s contribution of time as a weekday morning golf cart driver is appreciated by visitors, outpatients and Medical Center staff who welcome the ride from their parking space to the Medical Center entrance.
Among countless accolades from his peers are comments that Roy is well-liked by all, the release stated.
Hartle is an Army veteran. He was stationed in Europe during the Korean War.
Prior to retirement, he was employed as a wood pattern maker at Hassetts Patterns and Industrial Patterns. In his retirement, he enjoys fishing, reading and spending time with family.
On a particularly blustery March morning, Hartle’s sons, Roy Jr. and Tom, joined the presentation of the award by Joanne Carrocino, president and CEO, Tom Piratzky, vice president of marketing and public relations, and Julie Paolella, director of volunteer services.
Hartle was presented with a boutonnière, Special Touch Volunteer pin, gift certificate and commemorative plaque.
“What I like most about volunteering is meeting people,” stated Hartle. “The people are so nice. It feels good to be recognized by my friends. I just enjoy driving the golf cart and helping people,” Hartle added.
He and his wife, Betty, live in Villas. In addition to their two sons, Roy, Jr. and Tom, they have a daughter Amy and two granddaughters, Elle and Lily – the entire family resides in Cape May County.
