By Herald Staff

JOAN CANNON
COURT HOUSE — Joan Cannon has been named Cape Regional Medical Center’s “Special Touch Volunteer of the Month” for September 2009.
Cannon has contributed over 900 hours of volunteer service since joining the Volunteer Services Department in 1998 as a pastoral care volunteer, according to a release.
As part of the Pastoral Care Team, Cannon’s service includes visiting inpatients to offer spiritual encouragement when requested.
Prior to retirement, Cannon was a home health aide and worked for various organizations such as Bayada Nurses and Special Care Home Care. She lives in Wildwood and enjoys reading and walking on the Boardwalk.
Thomas Piratzky, vice president of Marketing and Public Relations and Julie Paolella, director of Volunteer Services, along with Cannon’s fellow volunteers surprised Joan with the Special Touch Award.
Cannon was presented with a bud vase, a Special Touch Volunteer pin, gift certificate and commemorative plaque.
“Simply stated, I’m surprised,” stated Cannon. “I genuinely enjoy talking and visiting with our patients. They are always very thankful and enjoy the chance to talk.”
