COURT HOUSE — In celebration of National Healthcare Volunteer Appreciation Week, Cape Regional Medical Center hosted a special luncheon on Wed., April 13 at The Grand Hotel in Cape May to recognize more than 200 volunteers in their various service roles.
The volunteers included several of our Bumper T. Caring Clowns as well as two of the four pet therapy dogs and volunteers from the many departments in the Medical Center.
Five & Twenty Club
The volunteers were congratulated by their peers for total service hours ranging from 100 to an amazing 16,500 hours. One volunteer’s service, Joanne Wood, was recognized and her name added to the Five and Twenty Club Roster, which includes those who’s, total service hours equal or exceed 5,000 or total length of service is at 20 years or more.
Volunteer of the Year Named
Gerry Bender was joined by his family and cheered by his fellow volunteers as he was honored as the 2011 Volunteer of the Year. “Since his 2007 commencement as a hospital volunteer, Gerry has received accolades from his fellow volunteers and staff members for his dedication and commitment to his pharmacy volunteer assignment,” stated Julie Paolella, director of Volunteer Services.
“Gerry has also provided volunteer service in the Admission Department as well as the Fitness Center. He has been dedicated in recruiting new volunteers to the hospital,” she added. Bender’s exemplary service was initially honored by his peers in June, 2010 at which time he was presented with the Volunteer of the Month Award; the Volunteer of the Year recipient was selected from the respected listing of the year’s monthly awardees.
