CAPE MAY — The Cape May Music Festival, presented by Cape May’s Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC), has been voted “Favorite Music Festival” in the 2016 annual People’s Choice Awards administered by the Discover Jersey Arts program of ArtPride New Jersey after a record-breaking number of votes were cast.
The Awards take place annually to honor the work of New Jersey’s vital, vibrant and diverse arts community. This year more than 21,000 ballots were cast statewide – the greatest number of votes since the program’s inception in 2008.
The Cape May Music Festival was among more than 110 arts organizations and downtown districts nominated for the Awards in 16 categories. It garnered 2,631 votes, the most among seven nominees in the “Favorite Music Festival” category. This year marks the festival’s 27th year. From May 29 through June 16, the Cape May Music Festival will present world-class orchestral and chamber music featuring performances by the Bay-Atlantic Symphony, the New York Chamber Ensemble and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players; Irish, jazz and brass band musical performances; Bach’s Lunches and a Champagne Jazz Brunch. For information on this year’s festival, visit www.capemaymac.org.
“We are delighted the annual Cape May Music Festival was chosen favorite by the voters in this year’s annual People’s Choice Awards,” said MAC Director Michael Zuckerman. “Our heartfelt thanks go to all those who voted and to those who have contributed to the 27-year history of this event.”
MAC was honored at the New Jersey Conference on Tourism at the Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City March 4.
“All of the nominees in the 2016 People’s Choice Awards should be very proud of the work they’re doing to bolster arts and culture in our state,” said Adam Perle, President & CEO of ArtPride New Jersey, the state arts service organization that coordinates the annual awards. “To be nominated by one’s peers is to wear a badge of honor that signifies ‘great art happens here.’ With more than 100 truly outstanding nominees, it’s easy to see how much exceptional art takes place right here in New Jersey.”
