COURT HOUSE – In summer, 2014, the Cape May County Zoo has been lauded by the popular travel site, TripAdvisor, twice. Most recently, the Zoo was ranked number 15 in the category: Best Zoo in the United States. In June, TripAdvisor (promoted as the world’s largest travel site) awarded the Zoo a “Certificate of Excellence” for best zoos.
Freeholder E. Marie Hayes, liaison to the Cape May County Park and Zoo, explained in a release that to be chosen as one of the top 25 in the nation is a great honor, but placed as 15th just behind famous metropolitan zoos and giant zoos like the San Diego Zoo, is proof that the effort and support of the Cape May Board of Chosen Freeholders and staff does not go unnoticed. “We have an enormous amount of pride in our zoo,” said Hayes in a release. “It may be considered small by zoo standards, but it holds a large place in the hearts of those who visit and is evident by the ranking earned by the respondents to the TripAdvisor survey.”
According to an audit of the reviews of the Cape May County Zoo on the Trip Advisor website, there has been at least two 5-star reviews posted online everyday in the summer, including many detailed postings about the attraction.
“I am very proud of the continued accomplishments at the Cape May County Park and Zoo,” said Michael Laffey, director of Operations for Cape May County, in a release. “The Park and Zoo staff has done an amazing job of showcasing the County’s jewel. The national recognition the Zoo has received over the past several years is extremely impressive. Hats off to the staff for a job well done.”
