COURT HOUSE — According the NJ Division of Travel and Tourism Economic Impact study for 2013, Cape May County’s tourism industry experienced a 2.3% growth totaling $5.5 billion dollars. Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno delivered this good news at the annual New Jersey Tourism Conference held March 19 – 20 in Atlantic City.
Vicki Clark, President of the Chamber reported, “this is great news for all of New Jersey. Expectations following the first year after superstorm Sandy were to have a flat year or even a slight loss in market share so everyone is very excited to see these numbers”. The tourism industry in Cape May County generates over 25,000 jobs and is linked to 68% of the county’s employment opportunity. Additionally, Cape May County’s tourism industry is second only to Atlantic County in generating local and state tax revenue.
The Cape May County Chamber of Commerce is among the state’s strongest advocates for the tourism industry and many of the organizations’ programs are directly related to tourism advocacy, promotion, and funding.
Overall, New Jersey saw growth of 1.3% in 2013 over 2012 and tourism remains the third largest industry in New Jersey with over a $40 billion economic impact on the state. Throughout the state, tourism provides 320, 238 jobs and sustains more than 522,750 jobs including direct and indirect jobs.
