CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — Cape May County Chamber of Commerce Chairman Tom Piratzky has announced that the Chamber will pay tribute to the organization’s 100 years of service to the business community at the 72nd Annual Meeting and Installation Dinner on October 20. This event will be held at Icona Golden Inn in Avalon.
According to the Chamber’s history, what is now the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce began as the Seashore Association Chamber of Commerce in 1916 when the barrier island communities of Cape May County joined together to form an organization to promote tourism in the County. After the outbreak of World War I, the Seashore Association Chamber was inactive for a short time, then re-grouped until 1929 and the stock market crash.
In 1944, business, civic and political leaders in the County reactivated the Seashore Association Chamber as the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce but did not incorporate the name until 1954, hence this year being the 72nd annual meeting of this organization.
The Chamber’s Annual Meeting will include the installation of new officers and directors and presentation of awards. Pre-paid reservations are required. Visit www.capemaycountychamber.com/dinnerawards or call (609) 465-7181.
