Cape Bank Sends Local Business Owners to BootCamp

COURT HOUSE – Last Nov., when Jennifer Boyce and Maggy Robinson attended Cape Bank’s local seminars on how to create a Destination Business they had no idea their final destination would be Longmont, Colorado. But that’s exactly where the two business owners recently found themselves.
As a result of their participation in Cape Bank’s November seminar, Boyce, who owns Glazed Over Studies in Ocean City and Galloway, NJ, and Maggy Robinson, co-owner of Holly Shores Camping Resort in Wildwood, NJ, won all-expense-paid trips to marketing and small business expert Jon Schallert’s Feb. 27-March 1, 2012, Destination Business BootCamp in Colorado.
Schallert’s 2-1/2 day BootCamp, which most recently included 45 businesses from all over the country, is staged multiple times throughout the year. It targets business owners, retailers, entrepreneurs and individuals who want to accelerate their learning curve and receive in-depth instruction, strategies and specific tactics on how to become a dominant Destination Business and pull consumers past the competition. Schallert provides attendees with personalized instruction and a Destination Business Notebook designed to make small businesses stronger and more profitable, while raising the value of the enterprise for when owners eventually want to sell their operation.
“The BootCamp was held in one little area and we were immersed in the training every day from 8 am until 5 pm,” said Boyce, a former school teacher and librarian who provides hand building and pottery design as well as mixed media mosaic at her Glazed Over Studios. “Beyond the sessions and personalized interaction with Jon, we had breakouts that allowed us to cross reference our experiences and brainstorm with our peers.
“For me, the BootCamp really sealed the deal by affirming those things I was doing well, while cutting down on the learning curve on how I can drive people from outside of Ocean City and Galloway to my business,” Boyce continued. “Like I used to do in my classroom, it taught me to create a sense of community within my business – to remember how awesome a child’s birthday party was, and then remind my customers and thank them for their business. It reminded me to always be mindful of who my customers are and to build personal and comfortable relationships.”
“It was incredible, there were people from all over the country,” said Dave Robinson, the co-owner of Holly Shores Camping Resort who joined his wife, Maggy, in attending Schallert’s BootCamp. “It was very informative and they went over every aspect of business, from marketing and advertising to public relations and promotions. For our business, the information on how to utilize the Internet and social media proved very useful. Maggy and our internal marketing group were already proactive in terms of the Internet and social media, but this opened up some new sites and applications.”
“It wasn’t just your basics on how to set up a website or a Facebook page,” Maggy added. “It was more in-depth in terms of how to search engine optimize and take advantage of some of the new software programs that let you automatically update Twitter and Facebook and schedule articles and blogs.”
