COURT HOUSE — Barbara Thomas, patient registration clerk, is the Service Excellence of the Month recipient for December 2009. Thomas has been a member of the Cape Regional Medical Center team since 1992 and worked in the Patient Registration Department for the past 18 years.
Thomas was nominated for the Service Excellence Award by her supervisor, Anne Bologno, director of Patient Registration, who stated in a release, “Barbara has been recognized by patients for her outstanding customer service. She consistently displays professionalism and a dedication to helping patients and their families.”
In numerous patient letters and surveys it has been noted, “Barbara was wonderful, calmed me and took the time to make me comfortable.” “Barbara Thomas is the best! The hospital is lucky to have her.” “Barbara, in outpatient registration, is really nice and is excellent at her job.” “Barbara is an asset to the hospital. She handled a difficult patient with grace and patience.”
Thomas lives in Ocean View with her dog, Stinker.
She has a daughter, Lisa Poirier, and two grandchildren, Phillip, 22, and Alicia, 18.
She also has a sister, Donna, and a brother, Thomas, who live in Belleplain with their father, Frank Macellaro.
Thomas, surrounded by colleagues, accepted the honor from the Service Excellence Committee.
Mark Gill, vice president, Finance, presented Thomas with the Service Excellence of the Month pin, $100 Visa gift card, a Cape Regional Medical Center duffel bag and beach towel and a three month membership to the Fit for Life Fitness Center at the Medical Center.
“This honor really humbles me because I am doing something that I love,” exclaimed Thomas. “The patients deserve the respect and treatment of a kind word and a smile to help them through their difficult time. I’ve been where they are with health problems, and I just want to make sure they know how much I care.”
