Avalon Mayor Swears in New Police Officer

AVALON — Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi conducted the swearing in of Matthew S. Ardelean as a new full-time officer with the Avalon Police Department. The swearing in was conducted at the Wednesday, Feb. 24 meeting of the Avalon Borough Council.
“We are very proud of the Avalon Police Department which is regarded as one of the best departments in the State,” Mayor Pagliughi said. “Avalon is excited to welcome Matthew to our team and looks forward to many years of exemplary service to the Borough.”
Ardelean is 25 years old and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Stockton University. He resides in Margate.
Ardelean began his law enforcement career with the Avalon Police Department as a Class II officer in December 2013. He attended the Cape May County Police Academy and completed the Special Law Enforcement Officer 2 course and served for nearly two years. Subsequently Ardelean was hired by the Avalon Police Department as a full-time police officer and attended the Cape May County Police Academy, Residential-basic course for full-time police officers. He will fill a vacancy in the department created by a retirement.
