The Avalon Lions said they would do it, and this month they honored their promise. A check for $30,000 was presented to the Helen L. Diller Vacation Home for Blind Children during the Lions’ August meeting.
Thanks to the Lions’ successful golf tournament in July, they were able to raise the needed funds to continue their ongoing support for the home that hosts dozens of blind and visually impaired children for a week of summer fun at the Jersey shore.
Accepting the check were members of the Diller Home board of directors including President Doug Heun, Vice President Chuck Covington, and directors Mike Sowers, Joe Ostrowski and Frank Hallinan. A major sponsor of the tournament, Worldwide Jet’s Cliff Russell, presented the check on behalf of the Lions.
The Avalon Lions Club is the largest Lions Club in New Jersey and raises funds for more than a dozen charities in Cape May County including food banks, Veterans groups, CARA, CASA and Habitat for Humanity. The Avalon Lions Club is a 501 (c )3 charitable foundation.
