The calendar may say it’s still winter, but Avalon Lions don’t hibernate this time of year – they roar louder than the wind outside your door. They proved it once again recently by hosting volunteers and officials of CASA, the Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children of Atlantic and Cape May Counties, for a dinner meeting and check presentation.
CASA relies on volunteers to stand by abused and neglected children in their communities and in court. CASA wants these children to know that someone is on their side and ready and willing to fight for their rights, and to make their lives better. Five members of the Avalon Lions Club are also volunteers for CASA children. This winter they are putting your donations to work for kids who need it most. The Lions have made a five year commitment to donate $5,000 annually to CASA, and this year they did even better thanks to the generosity of our neighbors who give to the Lions fundraising efforts. A check for $6,000 was presented to Karen De Rosa, Director of Community Development for CASA. Joining her at the presentation were Shanny Sowers, a Lions member and CASA volunteer, and Warren Iredell who also volunteers for CASA kids. The check was presented by Avalon Lions Club Vice President, Jim Lutz.
The Avalon Lions Club supports 15 charities in Cape May County and gives them over $120,000 a year in donations. The club is one of the largest 501 (c)3 charitable corporations in New Jersey. For more information, email robinmackintosh505@gmail.com.
