The Avalon Lions Charitable Foundation recently awarded CASA for Children of Atlantic and Cape May Counties a $5,000 grant to help recruit, train and support volunteers who act as court advocates for children living in foster care in Cape May County. The gift represents a increase in funding to the organization and is the fourth year in a row that the Foundation has supported CASA. The check was presented to CASA at the Lions monthly meeting on March 19.
The Avalon Lions Club, Inc. was founded in 2002 and has now grown to over 140 members that live throughout the shore community. Through the Avalon Lions Charities Foundation, a tax deductible 501c3 charity, the club raises funds to help the blind and needy in Cape May County. The Avalon Lions are on track to donate over $120,000 this year in addition to 100’s of community service hours. Trained CASA Volunteers speak in family court on behalf of abused and neglected children in the foster care system and are dedicated to ensuring these children are placed in safe permanent homes as quickly as possible.
