The weather outside was frightful but the mood inside the Avalon Links Golf Club was delightful as more than 60 members shared a dinner and a combined concern for their Cape May County neighbors.
Five new members were brought into the club in initiation ceremonies. That brings the Avalon Lions rolls to more than 150 members strong.
After dinner, Lions Club member and expert in concussions and brain injuries, George Zitnay presented a challenge to his fellow Lions to raise the money needed to provide a medical device that helps diagnose brain injuries in Cape May County. Those injuries, he says, affect a wide variety of individuals from athletes, who suffer concussions to veterans who may not be aware they have injured their brain during military service.
Also speaking at the dinner was Lions member Barbara Harvey, with Volunteers in Medicine. The organization helps provide medical care to needy families in Cape May County. The Lions presented the organization with a check for $3,500 to support its ongoing effort.
The Avalon Lions is one of the largest 501 (c)3 charitable corporations in New Jersey. For more information contact: robinmackintosh505@gmail.com
