Avalon Hodge Podge Receives Special Proclamation Honoring 20 Years in Business

By Sponsored

AVALON – Owners Tammie and Dave Carbohn were honored to accept a special proclamation honoring them for being in business for 20 years from the city of Avalon by Mayor Martin Paghlughi and a Joint Legislative Resolution by Senator Jeff Van Drew, Assemblyman Bruce Land and Assemblyman Bob Andrzejczak. The Carbohn’s have been keeping tabs on fishing conditions, booking customers on local charters and reporting on the biggest catches for 20 years. The business, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, caters to the casual fisherman as well as the serious angler, and the Carbohns are ready to share their wealth of knowledge at a moment’s notice.
Present at the presentation of the Joint Legislative Resolution were Grace and Frank Quirk, long time fishermen from Avalon. The Quirk’s have fished the waters for over 50 years in this area and are loyal customers at Avalon Hodge Podge. Grace Quirk recalls fishing in the 1950s at various locations on Avalon Boulevard like Jim’s Place, Reed’s Beach and the Avalon back bay area. They would fish with Frank’s parents and there are now five generations of the Quirk family fishing in the area. In 1974, the Quirks started fishing off the dry decks of the Avalon Anchorage Marina. Fishing has been a long-time hobby of the Quirks and they were honored to be present for the 20th anniversary presentation to owners Dave and Tammie Carbohn. “Avalon Hodge Podge is a store that keeps us coming back. They treat their customers well and have everything we need to fish,” says Grace.
“Avalon Hodge Podge offers over 6,000 items for fishing, crabbing and boating,” said Dave. “We offer every bait a New Jersey fisherman could want, from inshore fluke to offshore tuna. We are also a one-stop-shop for all your boating needs, from bottom paint to spark plugs, and we offer all New Jersey licenses. It’s your one-stop shop for marine supplies, fishing bait and tackle, rod and reel repairs, fishing charters, crabbing supplies, inflatables for fun in the water and so much more.”
The inflatables include private islands, chill lounges and party floats that seat a small group. There are also floats with trampolines, and fun themed varieties such as a giant pizza pie.
“We try to stay on top of what’s hot this year so our customers have all of the latest offerings,” said Tammie.
The business uses Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to keep their customers informed of fish weigh-ins, special events, sales and hours of operation. In honor of the business’ 20th anniversary, there will be specials running all year long.
Avalon Hodge Podge is located at 2389 Ocean Dr., Avalon. For more information, call (609) 967-3274 or visit www.avalonhp.com.
