AVALON — The Avalon Free Public Library has appointed Erin Brown as the new Director of the Library. Brown was hired by the Avalon Free Public Library Board of Trustees at its meeting on August 11, 2016. Brown will succeed Norman Gluckman who is retiring from the position effective September 9.
“I want to thank the Board for its very thorough search for a new Library Director,” said Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi. “We are very excited to welcome Erin to our Avalon community and we are very confident that she and her staff will continue and enhance the high level of services offered every day at the best free public library in the State of New Jersey.”
Brown has served as the Head of Adult Services for the Atlantic City Free Public Library for the past eight years. She coordinated the construction and development of two library branches, participated in the library’s administrative team’s strategic planning and goal setting, coordinated adult programming and staffed the reference, computer center, youth services, circulation and branch public service desks. Brown is a graduate of Drexel University with an MS Degree-Library and Information Science and a Drexel University Dean’s Fellowship recipient. She also holds a Business Associates degree in Arts with a concentration in Arts History.
“The Avalon Free Public Library is a tremendous example of how a library should engage and serve its community,” Brown said. “I am humbled at the opportunity to assume the direction of a perennial five-star free public library and look forward to working shoulder to shoulder with our residents, visitors, community organizations and the Board of Trustees to exceed expectations.”
Gluckman is retiring from the Avalon Free Public Library following an exemplary 10 years of service. He first joined the Avalon Free Public Library in August 2006. Under Gluckman’s direction, the library has been recognized as a five-star library for eight consecutive years by Library Journal. Only two other libraries in New Jersey attained five-star status during the most recent review by Library Journal. The library will be holding a farewell party for Gluckman on Thursday, September 8 at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend and wish him well upon his retirement.
The Avalon Free Public Library is located at 235 32nd Street in Avalon. For more information about Avalon’s five-star free public library, please visit www.avalonfreelibrary.org.
