MAYS LANDING—Atlantic Cape Community College received accolades from two chambers of commerce this month for marking its 50th anniversary of creating opportunity for residents of Atlantic and Cape May counties.
The Greater Atlantic City Chamber of Commerce presented a resolution to Dr. Peter L. Mora, college president, commemorating the college’s milestone during its regular meeting Nov. 17 at Stockton Seaview Resort.
The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce presented the college with a special award for its 50-year commitment to higher education Nov. 15 at the Ocean City Yacht Club.
In December 1963, the State Department of Education granted approval for the establishment of Atlantic Community College, which became the second college to be organized by the state on April 14, 1964. The college opened its doors to students in September 1966 using facilities rented from Atlantic City High School. Atlantic Cape now has full-service campuses in Mays Landing, Atlantic City and Cape May Court House. In 1999, the college officially became a joint college between Atlantic and Cape May counties and was renamed Atlantic Cape Community College.
