Atlantic Cape Program Offers Graduation Incentive

COURT HOUSE – Nine Atlantic Cape Community College students residing in Cape May County received computers, printers and accessories Aug. 5 as part of the college’s Collegiate Computers Program event at Atlantic Cape’s Cape May County Campus.
Recipients who complete their program of study and graduate will be allowed to keep the equipment permanently, providing the students with an incentive to remain in school and earn a degree.
The program was sponsored by the Mustard Seed of Cape May County, South Jersey Industries and STAPLES in conjunction with the Atlantic Cape Foundation.
Student recipients included: Tara Baliban of Ocean City; Tamia Bey of Cape May Court House; Barbara Burke of Cape May Court House; Danielle Leroy of Woodbine; Allison Miller of Cape May Court House; April-Rose Muentz of North Cape May; Shanina Price of Cape May Court House; Roger Thompson of Wildwood; and Crystal Wimley of Villas.
“This opportunity has completely encouraged me to continue with college, and the computer will be really helpful,” said April-Rose Muentz.
As part of the program, students have been matched with mentors who will provide them with individualized coaching and support to ensure they are using the equipment well and are making steady progress through their courses.
“I’m really thankful that we’re working with mentors—it’s innovative and it makes students feel important,” said Muentz.
Muentz, 27, a returning community college student, is studying business administration at Atlantic Cape. She has been matched with program mentor Jane Gleason of Cape May Court House, a retired business and finance professional.
“I feel good that I can give back by helping someone graduate from college and continue their education,” Gleason said.
Atlantic Cape mentors are adults in Cape May County who are able to model academic success and professionalism.
