OCEAN VIEW – Recently, Dr. and Mrs. Don B. Weems of Venice, Florida, and Cape May, New Jersey, presented The Cape May County Historical & Genealogical Society and Museum with the gift of an oil painting of the sailing vessel, Adella Corson. The Adella Corson was built in Tuckahoe, NJ, (circa 1871) with its home port having been Somers Point, NJ. The painting shows the vessel under sail, with the shoreline of Cape May, NJ, clearly evident in the background. The Historical Society is extremely grateful to the Weems for this generous gift. We are currently researching the painting with regards to its artist as well as the history of the ship. We will be presenting the painting for public viewing as part of our sixth annual Art for History Auction on Sept. 7, 2013, beginning at 6 p.m.
The Art for History Auction will feature both live and silent auctions of fine and decorative art which has been created by local artists. World re-known glass artist, Paul J. Stankard will be present to discuss his amazing works of art. Edward J. Meschi, author of “Durand, The Man and His Glass” will offer his book which describes in great detail “Durand Art Glass”. On par with Tiffany, Durand Glass was made in Vineland, NJ from 1924 to 1932. There will be antiques available in the silent auction. Great food, drinks and entertainment are included in the night’s festivities.
The Art for History Auction is the primary fund raiser for the Historical Museum, a non-profit 501.3C. organization. The event is held in the recreation building of the Ocean View Resort Campground, 2555 Route 9 in Ocean View, NJ. Tickets are twenty dollars each and are available by calling the Museum at 609-465-3535 or visiting the website at www.cmcmuseum.org.
Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
