Members of the Christ Child Society have been busy shopping and delivering coats and hats to help children in need in our community. A record number of coats needed this year has totaled 400 to date, most likely due to the economic downturn and high employment rates in our area.
The coat project works through allocation letters that are mailed in September to all local schools and agencies to submit their size and gender information for coats required, based on qualified information regarding children in need.
Many of the hats are handmade by members and friends.
Some of the Christ Child members gathered recently to assemble coats and hats for delivery. Another mission of the Christ Child Society is to provide new cribs and layettes for babies in need to keep them warm and safe. Members are busy making baby afghans and infant sweater sets in pink and blue as well as purchasing layette items.
New cribs and mattresses must be purchased now due to health regulations, but gently used and clean Pack-N-Plays and other baby furniture and clothing are always appreciated.
New members are welcome to join the Christ Child Society, but membership is not necessary if you can sew, crochet or knit and would like to help make these items. Yarn and directions will be provided.
The Christ Child Society is an all volunteer organization with an entirely non-denominational mission, and has served children in our area for over 30 years. All items go directly to the children through local agencies that provide assistance to families in need. The only source of income comes from donations and fundraisers held during the year.
Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated and can be made payable to the Christ Child Society, PO Box 882, North Cape May, NJ 08204. Please call 609-602-7682 for more information.
